I am jealous! I have long thought this would be the ultimate modification...I simply cannot wait to see how it turns out!
I think you should post this on a national Mustang club site. The sight that you cut up a convert. Must. to build a Maverick. That would put them over the edge. WTG Dennis. :bananaman
Awesome project Mavaholic. As a Maverick fan and convertible lover I have longed to take on a similar project for some time. I think you are definitely on the right track. I have felt that the four door rear section is a great candidate for a convert. due to the flatter rear window/trunk area. Matching the sporty 2door roofline (swoopy) to where the quarters meet the roof seem (to me at least) to be among the biggest challenges. If I lived near you I would certainly offer a hand. Good luck and I look forward to possibly the worlds first Maverick Sprint Convertible?!
Cool, I will finally get to see one in person! Just glad it is you and not Radmav, then I'd never get to see it.
Why did you decide to use a Mustang and not something more dimensionally closer to a maverick or build your own frame for the convertible top?
Thanks for all the encouragement. I'm really looking foward to working on this but I will not put a deadline on it. That just makes me turn out stuff that is not as good as I really wanted it. I am planning on using a 4 dr trunk lid because it is much flatter. I will probably graft on the back end of the 2dr trunk for the spoiler. I think the mustang is about as close as you will find. The windshield post comes down and sits behind the upper door hinges. The distance between the upper hinges (side to side) is the same for both cars. If you open your door, you will see the windshield post curves in and goes behind the hinge. The mustang windshield comes down and curves out. Thus it is narrower but the attaching points are the same. The door opening lengthwise is the same. The distance between the rear wheel wells is only 1" wider for the mustang. As far as building my own convertible frame, a engineer I'm not. I can cut stuff up and weld it back together, but i wouldnt even know where to begin in desigining something like this. I'm taking the easy way out.
This should prove to be a very interesting project. I liked Barry's idea of a rumble seat and was going to recommend that myself. That just leaves 1 question from me. Are you going with big bumpers? and no, you cant have the ones off my Stallion.
