I like the power steering. Mine does not leak. I rebuilt the ram and the control valve on mine for around 30 bucks and a couple of lazy evenings 'puttering' in the garage. I bought new hoses and the rebuild kits through RockAuto and used the 5% discount code available through the forums here. You can also replace the seats in the ports where the hoses attach. @71Mavrk enlightened me about those...

The kits come instructions, but there are a few Mustang videos on YouTube that I found helpful.

I suspect it's because most don't understand the system and once it gets a bit worn or starts leaking, their solution is pull it off for manual...

As already mentioned it'd be a good idea to rebuild unit and and replace hoses before install...

This is just my opinion. But I went from power to manual. I prefer the feel on manual better, you have a better sense of the car. Though power is nice for parking...

30+ years with manual steering I now am completely happy with power steering. Yes, there is a bit of loss in feel compared to power but not totally detached like modern cars. I'm using a later style pump which I believe has a little less pressure. So, feel might be a little better. Parking is soooo much easier.

As Tom mentioned, correctly rebuilt, they work just fine. No need to upgrade in my opinion.

Not a lot if you do it your self. Maybe 40-50 dollars for both kits. Not including a new pump. The rebuilds aren't hard just take you time and keep them clean!! Otherwise they will leak.
