I emailed Summit asking about pricing and availability on all the panels since they are distributors and got the following response: "Corbin, Thank you for your email. Unfortunately, we do not offer any of those parts numbers from that manufacturer. I am sorry that we could not help you today, but please keep us in mind in the future. We appreciate your business. Thank you, Summit Racing Equipment"
Cheap has nothing to do with it, and my car has plenty of "good" parts. Over the 43 years that I've owned it I've put more money into my car then most. Vinyl shrinks, gets brittle and cracks. How do you "take really good care" of some door panels in a Maverick that was daily driven for 15 years? Maybe I could've hired a couple kids to stand there and hold umbrellas over my car and shade it while it was parked at work. What I did was make my own panels using tempered wall board, batting, and upholstery grade vinyl for a grand total of $40. It's lasted longer than the stock stuff. That said, I wouldn't mind seeing how the third panel down in the list would look in my car. My concern is I have power windows so I don't want the hole for the window crank and I have 6X9 speakers installed in the doors, I cringe at cutting big holes in panels I just paid $350 for.
Corbin, I'm not sure why they told you that. I have spoken to corporate and Summit is in the process of getting the new panels added to their website, should take less than a week in my opinion, of course I don't know how long it will take. They are working with Jeff (rthomas771) and I'm sure he will notify the mmb of the pricing, and when they are added, as soon as he has all the details. Looks like your email just fell into the lap of an employee not willing to do the extra legwork.
I've had them do it a couple times before. They can't sell you something that isn't listed in their catalog so they'll just add it in to complete the sale. Last set of rockers I bought were made Crower and they didn't have the specific part # I wanted. It took less than 1 week to be added so I could make the order. And they called ME.. to place the order once it was added. That company has a VERY smart business model and it's one of the reasons they are so successful these days. Oh and.. they might not always be the cheapest out there.. but their return policy and shipping charges are top notch as well. That's usually always worth a little extra to me.
I totally agree. And not to nock you or anything but in my personal opinion there is no way you're going to have anything close to what these are when the tools are put away, not unless you are a professional upholster.
I'm not sure you understand but I'm NOT upholstering this piece of aluminum I quickly cut out. I was thinking about wrapping the Scott Rod Fab door panels for a custom but almost factory look. I have 'upholstered' doors, panels, dashes, and various other things with Great results .... even some tricky pieces. Would I claim master upholsterer ? Nahhh ... but it's Not Professionals Only market. I guess I am getting my cue to shut up on this subject though
It's not that any one is saying not to do it...just make another thread on it and don't clutter this one that's all.
I don't know what happened to your panels but mine lasted 46 years and still look brand new, and I have 4 other pair that look great?
I know this wasn't directed to me but God Only Knows how many owners actually owned my car. Supposedly an old man let his daughter or grand daughter drive it down to the end of the road before I bought it from a guy who was going to build a Grabber clone for his daughter who decided she wanted something new like a Honda. Mic Drop though I'm done in this thread. Op or Admin can remove my clutter if they will
Point is; if you get the OEM style replacement panels and take care of them, they could potentially outlast you.
