Hay everyone I had just did a valve job on my 73 I had two bent push rods and a couple wasted lifters. When I was putting my head back togther one of the bolts broke off when putting the cover on the head so we took it to a shop where they could tap into it and rethread it, I could of did it my self but I didn't want to damage the head. So I get it back thinking I was finally done with it and when I fire it up I see a ridiculous amount of white smoke only to finds that the oil is mixed with the water now I have a crackhead, the mechanic told me he broke three Hilo coils trying to get it out and said after the third one he was hlgoing to make it bigger.I'm going to take it back to him and tell him that he cracked my head and go on from there but if worst comes to worst where would I look for a new head. I know most most newer heads are made out of a different material then what they made them out of in 73:yikes::yikes:

Assuming this, ahem, Hilo core was for a valve cover bolt, I doubt the machine shop cracked the head... If you had the head bolted on then removed and reinstalled without using a fresh gasket it's probably the leak... Head gaskets are one time ONLY... A wasted lifter likely also means the cam is damaged... You may well have a boat anchor under hood instead of engine...

Most new heads are aluminum, but you'll not find one for a old ford six that isn't cast iron...

Did you put sealer on head bolts that pass through the water jackets? If not, that's where the water is getting into the oil. Did you wait overnight before final torque to allow time for the head gasket to relax? Did you chase the threads before installing the head bolts?
