Am notching some shock towers on a 75 Mav, and am wondering if that reinforcment is really needed? The early Mavs dont have that heavy 1/8" wrap around reinforcement, thought if I cut it down some there would be another 1/4" of clearance for headers on a 351w. Anyone?

@71Mavrk grafted these off a later car and put them on his 71. They certainly can't hurt! IIRC, He has pictures in his showcase?

I've read different articles on early Mustangs complaining about structural cracking in these areas and around the upper control arm holes. There is also a reinforcement that goes under the upper control arm and bridges the top of the frame rail.

At the end of the day it's your call. I guess it all depends on how you plan on driving the car.

My 74 has the structural reinforcement. Question is, will the 1" drop aftermarket UCA's work on these cars or does the gusseting below the current UCA holes need to be notched?

    Thanks Paul.

I have them with TCP arms.

Just dry fit them and clearance as needed before you weld them in. That is what I did.

I don't know, Dave, but I would ASSume that Ford added that on later models because they felt it was necessary.
