So the previous owner had this ignition wire split open to run a wire to the tach. Now I need to run a bigger wire to my new HEI and I would like to know of another option other than the one you see here.
i thought about this and i will not be messing with that wire. i will just run power from that wire's disconnect at the firewall. however im trying to figure out where to hook up the light wire for the tach and because my instrument panel lights don't work but my headlights do, it's making this difficult. can I just hook this up to a headlight wire inside? if so where? I tried to check a bunch of wires at a connection with the lights on to no success.
Have you had the inst. panel out of the car to check if it's got power or if bulbs need replacing. I hv my tach and gauges to the headlight sw. I don't recall which wire, been a while since hookup. I wud have to check my electrical schematic.
Then u have a problem somewhere between the box and power source. Have u separated the fuse box and checked for corrosion at the contacts? I did my box shortly after get my car and used some dental tools pick-up at swap meet and scrapped all the green patina frm the contacts, sprayed w/ WD40, put a skim coat of dielectric coat on the contacts and put it back together. After 40+ yrs of moisture from humidity, leaking cowls/windshields it was worth my time for peace of mine.
Yes I believe its all clean enough. I too went in there and cleaned all the contacts. The box is actually still separated if I need to do anything else.
