ok first my lower rad hose burst,so i got a new one while doing that i changed the thermastat just for the hell of it.everything went fine till the today when my car overheated and rad fluid was shooting out of the overflow hose. When i released the rad cap fluid just dumped out of the over flow hose.So the question would be is this the water pump cus thats all i got left .

i am thinking that you put the new t-stat in upside down. it happens...the side with the spring-thing in it goes onto the engine. the other side goes to the radiator...maybe the new t-stat is just bad? call it overkill but when i buy a new one i boil it before i put it in just to make sure it opens.

Could also just be air in the block. Maybe you didnt get it all out after you replaced the hose.

Scott is right about how commonly stats get ruined by just one overheating incident. There is always the possibility that it was defective from the start unless you did put it in upside down. If it were my car, I'd replace it now anyway. Hopefully, there wasn't ice in the system before the initial overheat. I hope you used a hydrometer to check what the system was, and is, protected to. Minus 20 is pretty far down for a cooling system.

At least the block didn't freeze like an '82 Cavalier I had did one winter. It only went down to zero and there was plenty of anti freeze in it. Last Chevy I ever bought and I had bought it new.

yes...I can relate. Just changed a stupid leaky intake gasket on a 3.1L '99 Lumina today. What a PITA..though it could have been much worse. Dealer wanted $600 to do it. Almost worth that to just pay them to do it...though helping a friend do it and getting some money to boot was nice.

I wouldn't own one either (GM car)

hey it was a piece of spring that was in the old lower rad hose.It broke off and went into the water pump witch meant i had to take off the water pump to get it off

That helps explain why the lower radiator hose bursted
