I am trying to replace my leaf springs and I may have ruined my rear frame rail trying to get the old bushing out. In an impatient rush to get this car done for Turkeyrod Run, on top of having no true friends to lend me a hand, I have ended up pushing the bushing out crooked with my bushing clamp. The bushing seems like it won't go any more, so I am not only stuck at this point, but my frame rail is both torn, and pinched. What can I do? I do have a welder.

Why were you removing it? Just curious.

    Harry,
I'm not quite sure what you were trying to do. Getting these bushings out should not really be an issue. I'm not sure what you would have needed the C clamp for. You should have been able to pry them out with a screw driver. Mine just fell out. I'm afraid you are going to need someone to weld and reinforce the sleeve back into place.

The sleeve you pushed out is part of the frame rail....The rubber bushings just fit in the sleeve and can be knocked out/ pried out with a minimum of fuss. You have to properly re-locate the sleeve/straighten the rail and weld it beck together with some reinforcement/ around the rail ...

You're not supposed to remove the metal tube ,its just a rubber bushing on both sides that you have to take out.should only take a couple minutes.

I had a hard time getting mine out to replace them with new ones but my metal ring stayed in. I used a pick like screwdriver to bend pull and pry mine out on my comet gt. it took a while but they finally came out.

I took a bottle torch and heated them up almost to the point of melting on my non gt then sprayed wd40 in the hole and they almost popped out using that same pick like screw driver

We have all been there. It is part of the learning curve. I have pissed away thousand of dollars on my own dumb mistakes. Don't beat yourself up.

what have you done? I got the sleeve out today after many attempts to reverse it. I cleaned it up and just basically have to weld it back in.

weve all done something that we thought was stupid atleast once. its boring when atleast one thing doesnt turn out to be stupid.
Im guilty of being stupid this time around myself with buying some new leaf springs that dont fit costing me $200 so far (Im still working on making them fit so I dont have to pay another $400 for the right springs:slap:
