I found a nice maverick body with no engine or trans that is practically free. Most of the interior is gone along with the rear window. Looking at the pictures of the Brazilian maverick wagons, I am seriously thinking of building a Nomad. I have started to look at small wagons for a roof with the correct width and lenght to fit and have not found that is an exact match yet. A local glass shop has told me they can cut the door glass to match the new angle of the door rear. I plan on slanting the back of the door like a real nomad. As for the rear end /tail gate, I am looking at thee roof line to be set forward about 6 to 8 inches as opposd to the bumper so there is a slant to the tail gate. Any advice on which roof and tailgate to use?
OK, first of all I think this would be a super project. One I looked into a little bit myself a few years ago when I was after a Brazilian wagon. BUT please call it a Ranchwagon. Thats what Ford called their 2 dr wagons. A Nomad is a c.....c...., I cant even say it. I hate it when people call my Ranchero an elcamino. I never did find any tailgates that would be a decent starting point because all the small wagons I found used hatch backs. Keep us posted cause I'm really interested in this. I would trade my 57 Ranchero for a 57 Ranchwagon in a heart beat.
I too love the idea and have thought about it before. How bout a pinto wagon?,or a fairmont?,or 60 something falcon wag.? What part of Ga. are you in? Ranch wagon somehow just does not sound right ( I do LOVE 57 fords too). If Ford had built a Ranchero based on the Mav. what would that have looked like???? Maybe a strecthed Mav. and use a @68 Ranchero bed?
An old falcon wagon would probably be a good canidate for a tailgate but there arn't any around here that I could find. Pinto's and Fairmonts were all hatchbacks.
Both Pinto and Fairmont was offerd in a wagon! Pinto was a 2dr of course,Fairmont I may be wrong about the wagon but it seems I recall those too.
Yes, I know, but the rear was not a tail gate per say. The tailgate and rear window is all one panel commonly called a hatchback or lift gate. A tailgate is separate from the rear window which commonly rolls down into the tailgate. This is what I was refering to.
I forgot about the tailgate thing. But a hatch may be easier to fab.(less work?).Maybe someone with photoshop can play around with this idea?
I have come to realize that those Brazilian wagons look like crap, no matter how 'different' it would be to own one. I can't stand that forward leaning post splitting the rear side glass, among other things. I think a Falcon wagon would be the way to go for a donor roof/gate. I know where one sits right now that is fairly solid and being parted out. I have to grab the rear view mirror out though, before I disclose the location of the yard. It is one of those junkyards that never scraps anything, even to it's own detriment. Dave
I just noticed that the picture in this thread has two door front doors instead of the four doors like the others. Radmav calls it Nomav instead of Nomad
It can be done with a lot of time and a little money...well, a LOT of money maybe but I still think ya ought to do it. Check out this Mustang wagon. http://www.jes-studios.com/mustang/Unique/unique.htm
