I am trying to find the 3-wire tail light sockets for a Comet. These are different than the Maverick, they are plastic and twist into the housing. The Maverick one is a 2-wire metallic push in. I found some at O'Rileys auto that were 3-wire labeled Ford 1974-1979. They would not fit into the housing. Are these some type of special ones Ford made for one year or just for the Comet?
Melvin's has them **MINOR FILING/TRIMMING TO EARS MAY BE REQUIRED** http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb...~S4G218NT2110870115314a~Z5Z5Z5~Z5Z5Z50001018o
NOS Parts ltd., still has NOS Ford/Mercury D1GY-13410-B which is direct replacement for $7.79 http://www.nospartsltd.com/product-p/d1gy13410b.htm you may want to check rear counter, lists a few vendors that still stock NOS http://www.rearcounter.com/D1GY-13410-B-parts60103.html would contact them first regarding availablity and price. The ones Melvin's originally had did not fit. I took a bunch of pictures for them. They were suppose to get with the vendor and fix the problem. Not sure if they did.
What was wrong with the fit? Too long? Too fat? Too small? Would filing or trimming the ears make it fit? Can you post us a pic?
They weren't even close. I actually disassembled the new ones and used the guts out of them in my old sockets.
I haven't worked with the brake/tail lamp socket(luckily mine are OK), but for backup I modified the keyway on back up sockets for '88 T-Bird and use those... If I remember correctly that was just cut away one tab and it fits nicely, easy as the sockets are plastic as well... Big plus is those use the far more common 1156 bulb vs the orig odd ball 1076...
Thanks guys. I am more accustomed to getting Mustang parts that are reproduced or still available. Trying to find some of the Maverick/Comet stuff can be frustrating at times. At least it looks as if these cars are starting to catch on as I have seen a couple of new repo things show up. Anyway, if you don't have a Maverick or Comet it is probably a good time to get one before the prices creep too high and the supply too low.
