Well, I was looking through the 73 Mav I just picked up looking for any type of treasure I could find, and I think I came across something.

The car has an 8-track player mounted under the dash made by Craig, which I assumed was installed by the previous owner. But then I found this FORD STEREO 8-Track tape under the seat. Since the pic was so big I had to crop it and all you can see below is the lable on the 8-track tape.

This made me think that maybe it was a dealer installed item. I am still waiting for the previous owner to dig out the original bill of sale and send it to me, so I don't know for sure.

Maybe someone out there knows something I dont know.

    Sorry for the crappy pics.

I don't know whether or not that is a factory installed 8 track, but that is a pretty cool pic of the Ford World Headquarters on the cover of the tape...neat find!

:hmmm: Wonder if it's a rare part or not....I have never seen somoething like that before.

But then again I think this is the 2nd 8 track I have ever seen in person! I'm from the generation that barely remembers regular cassette tapes!:biglaugh:

I figured some of you old-timers could help me out! :49:

The tape deck itself is not a Ford part. It was likely installed by a previous owner, or as a non-Ford dealer accessory. The tape however is a Ford product and was given out as a trial tape with every car that came factory equipped with a tape deck. It contains popular songs of the time in several genres. As far as I know, they are not particularly rare. I actually have a shoe box full of them from various years. It was likely gotten as a freebie from a dealership, or from a friend who owned a ford with a tape deck. Just my 2 cents.

    Sam :)

Back in the 70's I worked at a radio and TV repair shop. We were a Craig warranty station, among many other brands. Craig was a Japanese company known for their crappy stereo equipment, at least among electronics dealers and technicians. Original Ford stereo equipment would be labeled "Ford" or "Philco".

Those 8-tracks are not rare in my opinion either. My dad use to bring them home by the box full.

My t-bird has a factory installed in dash Blaupunkt AM/FM Shortwave radio and an 8 track installed under the front passengers seat....man i wish I could install that interior in a Mav, it's just super neat.

    Stereo 8

:DThat tape deck was one of the cheaper ones you could get at K Mart or any car stereo store. I still have mine, it has an FM stereo raido built into the tape door. The 8 track tape you have is a demo that was issued with optional AM/FM 8 track factory stereo. All this equipment is fun to display in the trunk or on the side at car shows to add to the cars '70's time period. I though about installing my equipmint in my Maverick but, I have an orginal perfect interior so I don't want to cut holes for speakers. I have to live with the AM radio. I still have about 150 8 track tapes! Joe
