I picked up an assortment of goodies today at the Webster car show including a maverick Consolette with a clock. I'm just curious what is a good price for one of these in good condition? I'm planning on putting it in my car but I was just curious.
I have not checked it yet, but the previous owner stated it did. Just had to remove when he installed a shifter. Is there a way to check with out power?
It is from a 70 maverick, there is only one small crack easily repairable. I also got an extremely good condition comet deluxe gas cap for five bucks, a small bumper supports for 10 and a hump hugger console today!
I was considering making a removable block off plate and install a better clock, most likely a digital one. But I will definitely test that one!
The movement is cheap and along with the heat/cold and vibration in a automobile, after a couple years they rarely kept time... After three or four years, were generally dead... The clocks have a "auto wind" mechanism that consists of a electrical contact on a arm(similar to a relay) that closes as the main spring unwinds... When the contact closes, a electromagnetic coil kicks the arm so it rotates approx a half turn, which tightens the main spring and the process repeats... Problem is they have to rewind approx once every 60 seconds or 60 times in a hour, 1440 times a day, 10080 times a week, 525,600 times a year -- well you get the picture... Would be interesting to retro fit a modern AA battery movement into one...
I have a NOS consolette with clock if anyone is interested. Brand new never been put together or hooked up.
I remember an old auto krafters catalogue that offered a quartz clock conversion for those, if I'm not mistaken.
Here is a link to an NOS clock. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-70-71-7...OMET-183-/191684266440?_trksid=p2054897.l4275
I'm thinking of doing something like this http://m.ebay.com/itm/321822453429?_mwBanner=1 or find a nice small analog clock.
That's was actually pretty helpful, luckily mine still looks pretty good. I just have to figure out how to make a block off plate.
