I need to remove the shift lever on the column. I now have a B&M floor shifter, and i keep reaching for the wrong one...LOL. Whats the best was to get rid of it. if knock out the pin does anything need to be removed from the column? i was thinking about cutting it off.:16suspect
Absolute best thing to do is buy a standard steering column. I just removed the shifter and left the sleeve on so I could move it to the park position to get the key out and drive around without the wheel locking on me. If I could have found a standard steering column I would have went that route.
Just know the pin out and remove the chrome lever. That is all you really need to do. I will show you more about it when I see you this weekend in Dearborn at the Roundup Nationals.
How does/can this happen? I removed my collar, sawed off the "nub" and bondo'ed over the hole so it looks like a manual shift collar. I don't remember doing anything else. I've never had this issue and don't really want to. Is there something I'm missing?
the linkage at the base of the steering column needs to be locked/wired in the park position. if not it could rotate on it's own and lock the steering while going down the road...mine did this... also mine rotated enough as to not let the neutral safety switch work...wouldn,t start.
Ahh, so with the lower 6" of the column removed and replaced with a solid bearing (rack and pinion conversion), this shouldn't be a problem, right?
If I remember correctly, when I installed my floor shifter, the column shifter is to be placed in PARK, and the column lock lever is locked in the most upward position. Just be aware that if the ignition key is moved to the lock position it will lock no matter what, even if you're moving. I don't think you have to modify the steering column at all.
