I finally have the car running. Idle and timing set. I wanted to pull it out of the garage, but I can't get the front brakes to work. The back brakes lock up when the pedal is abount an inch from the floor. The pedal has no resistance till I get pressure on the back.

It's a complete new front brake system. New lines, new calipers, and new master. Actually the second new master cylinder.

What I've done. Bench bled the master cylinder. Bled the brakes 5 times. Very little flow from the bleeders on the calipers. Thought the distribution block could have been blowing by. Completely removed the distribution block. Made all the connections with fittings. Bled the master cylinder while it was in the car. Bled the brakes 2 more times. Still no resistance on the pedal, and can still move the wheels by hand.

About the only thing I haven't done is pull the calipers.

    Any ideas? I'm all out.

    2 things come to mind:
Master cyl is not bled well or, its no good, or its incorrect for the application(Not enough pedal stroke)
Are the calipers on the correct sides??? The bleeders should be at the top not the bottom...
OK so thats actually 3 things.

Caliper bleeders point up. I originally thought it was the master cylinder. I ordered one from rock auto, front disc rear drum, manual. Put it in and it did the same thing. Spent a long while trying to bleed the master cylinder again. Did get lots of air out of it. It's posiible the mast cylinder is bad, but two of them.
I was thinking that maybe the piston in the calipers, aren't staying in place when the peddle is pushed. That they are retracting back into the housing, pushing the fluid back up into the master cylinder. I watched with the cover off of the master, when the peddle is released, there is a huge rush of fluid back into the resivoir for the front, but not the rear. Any thoughts? Could the rubber seal on the piston be enough to push the piston back?

I just looked at the diagram of the calipers again. I think tomorrow I will take the caliper off pump the breaks till I get the piston past the seal then only push it back in enough to get the caliper back on. Make sure the piston is past the seal.

brakes work now. there was not enough fluid in the calipers.
pulled them off cycled the pistons out half way. Pushed back in, which also pushed the rest of the air out. Put them back on added fluid, it dropped about an inch. Now I get good resistance about half way to the floor and can"t push it all the way to the floor.

Glad to read you got your brakes straightened out - I have seen the calipers put on the wrong sides before and I thought that might have been your problem but it wasn't - Happy Cruzin' :character0182:
