Where is the best place mount the hot wire from an electric choke? Will the alternator work?

I have mine on a separate aux.fuse panel. Any where u get 12+ volts in the run mode should work. If u run off the alt., make sure you have it fused.

Just to be sure, which terminal off of the alternator should I use? I guess a 20 amp fuse would be ok, right?

I am not sure what term. from the alt. u wud use. I suppose any that have 12+volts in run mode. I believe 20a. fuse is overkill; I think I have 10a on mine. The choke does not draw much current. Here is a link I use to calculate wire size for any circuits I make. I wud use a least 14 gauge -- you want the wire to be able to handle whatever current it's going to carry. Put fuse as close to the pwr source "altenator in this case", as possible. http://www.wirebarn.com/Wire-Calculator-_ep_41.html

I used a 5A fuse on probably 16Ga wire(whatever is used on my Painless aux fuse box), as mentioned choke draws very little current...

The factory uses the alt Stator terminal but that point only has about 8v AC on it(taken from center tap of stator), the aftermarket carbs are looking for a full 12v to operate choke... Unfortunately there is no ign switched 12v supply on alt...

I suppose you could try connecting to stator, though I'd verify my statement about the 8v...

Thanks Tom. I found my multimeter Friday. The voltage at the stator was just over 12v. Hooked up the choke wire to it and everything works perfectly.

Kewl, I may try connecting choke to stator on my 2G alt, can eliminate a wire running from aux fuse panel...
