I did a bunch of searching and didn't see anything useful yet. Has anyone had experience with swapping a floor shift column collar from another Ford onto a 1971 Maverick automatic column shift column? I finally pickup a manual transmission and would like to update my column when I make the swap. I know plenty of folks have just removed the column shifter and filled the holes but I'd love to swap parts if I can.
Well I dunno, but suspect are different as because of locking rod for transmission... For the record that plain collar Pt # is D0AZ-3790-A, used on '70/'71 Full Size, Torino, Mustang and Mav with floor shift... Probably on others as well...
My son just did that very thing on his 64 Falcon using a 64-66 mustang collar . He removed all the shift tube and levers reused the turn signal plate and the outer tube .
I used pieces from a 1989 F150. http://mmb.maverick.to/threads/heres-how-to-get-rid-of-the-column-shift-lever.69337/
Things I notices when swapping the end of the column doing a column-shift automatic-to-t5 swap on my 74 using 71 parts. The early collar has a smaller channel for the key switch to slid into, along with a smaller release pin and this caused my lock not fitting the early collar. Also the slot for the emergency flasher switch is not cut deep enough for my turn signal switch to fit all the way in the collar. The turn signal switches are interchangeable...different harness plug. Since I didn't have a key to fit the '71 column I decided to fill the gear indicator slots on my automatic collar with JB Weld. The other piece of the collar for the shift lever swapped out with no problem.
This is premature and does not answer your question, but I took the two collars from a 71 - 73 Mustang, and although I have not yet attempted to switch them they do appear identical. So it is probably as Krazy Comet Tom says.
i pulled the standard trans collar out of a 1984 ford f150. i don't know if it is going to work but i will find out.
I got a 76 Mustang II collar in my pile of parts. It looks like it will work but it has the silly lever to flip to get the key out
