Oil level sensor?

Hello!

I've got a small oil leak on the drivers side of my 6cyl block from what I think is the Oil Level Sensor (pic attached just to be sure).

To resolve that small leak do I need to change that all unit? Just a gasket somewhere? Tighten it even more?

That is an oil pressure sending unit. You should replace it, or you can remove, clean, and put some Teflon tape on the threads, reinstall and see if that fixes the leak..

Next oil change I do I'll try the teflon tape solution.

When there is a leak associated with the oil pressure sender, nine times in ten it's defective...

 

They are also cheap to acquire new replacements. Try www.RockAuto.com They have them anywhere from less than $2 to $20. You shouldn't have to wait to drain the oil to replace it. It only any amount of oil when the engine is running.

Not sure I got that part correctly though?

Does it mean if the engine is not running I can remove it without draining the oil?
