This is a brand new Interstate battery located in the trunk. I have noticed the more I drive the car, the weaker it is to start up. I just had to get jumped from the car show and when I turned it off when I got home, it won't even turn over, just the buzz. There's a ground strap in the trunk and there's a ground strap going from the fender apron to the block. What's the deal?
I hate to say this, and give them ANY credit, but this would be a great time to use Autozone, O'Reilly, etc. Get it started, and drive it to the store, and let them check the battery, alternator, everything. They will nail your problem down, and you don't have to stress over it. Finding gremlins in electronic systems is NOT fun, so let someone else do it whenever possible.
I disagree, I like chasin lectrical issues... Likely either the alt is not charging or is not connected to cable leading to trunk(fuse wire open, etc)...
Me too, but if you don't have the correct tools or knowhow, asking questions on a forum to get to the root of the problem could be a long time coming. His issue sounds pretty straight forward, and the guys at a shop could narrow down his problem pretty quickly, and for free.
I can't even make it down there. I've had the car on the trickle charger for a few hours now and the battery is up to 12.20 volts and the starter itself just spins. what do you mean not connected to the cable leading to the trunk? everything is hooked up to the solenoid and voltage regulator. now there's 4 wires coming from the alternator and 2 have always been just hanging. 1 is a tan wire with 2 fusible links and a big connector (my guess is for the alt. idiot light since mine stays on) and the other is a black wire with an orange stripe and I have no connector on that one.
Meaning fuse link from alt to solenoid could be open(blown).. Let it charge overnight and see what happens, most trickle charges need 24-48hrs to fully recharge a battery... No I don't think that'll fix your charge issue but if starter still just spins, there are other problems as well...
it's still charging but the starter is still just spinning. solenoid gone bad?? which one is the exciter wire? the 2 wires that hang to the right are the 2 that are not connected.
What starter do you have?? If it's a orig type and just spins the starter is at fault... That fuse link with the blue and black molded rubber beads doesn't look none too happy to me, pull between the beads and see if it comes apart...
damn you've got an eye. i took a closer look at that wire and it IS open on the other end. it doesn't come apart though. I have a wiring diagram for the engine bay and it looks like the exposed orange striped black wire is supposed to go to the starter relay? is this right? if so, could that be why the fusible link is blown? how can I replace this one since it's 1 wire stemming to 2? and yes the starter is an original type.
The black/orange is supposed to be connected from the alt to the battery connection on solenoid via a fuse wire... With it just dangling, unless there is a alternate connection added the battery isn't receiving any charge...
