Man I gotta say when I found this forum I was just looking for what I call "Modeling Knowledge" Do what the other guy had success at and duplicate it....Basically R&D-Rob and Duplicate. I have a long history of cutting up Henrys cars and reworking them into my version, chopped, slammed, sectioned, nosed, decked, you name it. Whatever part I need from wherever I could find it. From what I see this is a huge pool of guys that really care about these cars. Mostly keeping them pretty true to themselves. Interchange parts from different years but keeping them looking pretty true in appearance. I like the Comet tail lights is why I went after this one. I always like the early Couger Eliminators rear end. I do not like the nose of my car and will more then likely be looking to use a Maverick grill and hood. I like what I believe is a &) grill as it looks a lot like what was in my 70 torino Gt 429 Cobra w/Shaker scoop. I would minus the little round nipple in the center of it. when I get home I will post some pics of my car.
Kewl, welcome... Doesn't have a hood scoop?? Those were std on GT... I don't remember seeing a tutone stripe like that... My parts '71 that's same color has a black with white letters stripe..
That's what I am talking about! Original color was light blue. Rattle can primer over bondo/rust. Totally a tweaker car but I do not plan restoring it. Has 1965 DOM plate. Which under Wa Law does not make sense. Bill of sale so far. I am in a Toyota 20R motor. Even if I scrap it I still come out OK. I get a pretty good price at my local yard. Inline 6 has been a little toasty with pretty cooked oil and numerous exhaust leaks. Haven't been under it as am hiding from the cold working on my "27 Lakes Modified" inside with the woodstove well stoked LOL. Should the script on the dash say Comet or Comet GT? Aside from the hood what else should I look for as indicators. A quick look shows holes through the hood as if the scoop had been removed. looks like 10 of them, in about the same size as the hoods I see. will try to post pics. Again thanks for the help! Crenshaw
One thing that is unique to GT are body color drip rails(assuming no vinyl top), plus bucket seats were std...
Headed for the drip rails with Laquer thinner and some 1000 grit. Thanks for the input. Heres shot of underside of hood. 4 bolts on sides with 2 centered between the 2 rear corner bolts total of 10....tried to get pic to load. ?
Ok so a little rubbing shows a layer of blue which match's the inner edges of the front fenders. AHHHHH Finally got pic to load
Scoop bolt pattern in hood is correct, apparently you got yourself a genuine GT... There were 12,221 GT built in '72, not really rare but survival rate isn't that good either... If it were a 302 car(fifth digit in VIN F), I'd be inclined to save it... No idea how many were V8 vs 6cyl but I'd guess maybe 30-35%...
