Ignition lock cylinder

    from your description the new one is just like that. Where it needs to be, I can't get to because of the key needs to be in it. I guess I'll just have to stick with the old cylinder that's in it.

    Of course the key has to be in cylinder, it's only removable in off position... Reread my last post...
    Are you sure you have a '72 column??? The one I have is from a '71 and are suppose to be different...

    If I had not just torqued down the steering wheel on my '72, I'd compare them...

    I understand that...I was just saying that to explain how far off this piece is.I did read your post. I have tried adjusting the column and it just will not line up. And I am not sure about the column year. But if 71 and 72 are different then what do I have to go by??

    Only thing I can tell you is compare yours to a later lock, maybe parts store has a '73 or later in stock?? Listings are often incorrect, especially on older vehicles...

    I know the later '70s are different, have a dog bone on end that must fit through a security plate in rear of opening...

    the new and old ones are identical with no visual differences whatsoever.

    Here are the two listed for that car.from 5-14-1973/2-2-1976 is a US-68L it looks like this.

    This one should be for your car. A US-62L its for before 5-14-1973.

    Harry. Look at the very tip that goes in the column. The ends are different. I hope I was some help.

    thanks for the pictures. both of my cylinders look just like US-62L so it is the correct cylinder, just not working right. Weird.

    You may want to check one more thing. You said it goes in , but does not position itself at the same clock settings as your old one right. Maybe adjusting the switch on the top of the column would help.I will send a picture. My car is gutted to restore.

    yes but what switch on top? you mean the switch underneath the column? this is a floor shift manual.

    This would be on the steering column. It locates true position of the key.Manual or automatic. 1971-1977 should be the same. In dash switches are set up different. Iss yours in the column or dash?
