hi my Mav has been leaking oil for a long time, since i put the 5.0 in it. I've done oil pan gasket time and time again to no avail. so today i decided to crawl under there with the engine running to see where its leaking. well ill be darned! there is a crescent shaped cut out of the block and a hole in there. its been squirting oil this whole time... i have attached a pic of this spot. does anyone know what this was used for? and how do i plug it? it seems to be there from the factory (not a hole broken through the block) was it for a dipstick? is it threaded? if anyone knows it'll help me immensely. thank you ahead of time

If it's on the driver's side it's where the dip stick went. You can get a plug that will hammer in, tap the hole and put a plug in it, or use a small piece of dip stick filled with epoxy. I went with the last option as it was the easiest. Been holding fine for me for years.

My engine builder forgot to plug mine too. I got a small freeze plug from Napa. 3/8, I think. Put some silicone around it and drove it home with a long punch.

Thanks! I ended up using a vacuum plug and rtv and it seems to be working great! Thanks for the quick fix

It didn't look round in the photo until I realized that part of it was hidden by the pan gasket. I had my builder tap and plug the original dip stick hole in my Cleveland since I was using a Canton pan and Canton uses their own stick threaded directly into the pan
