Ok so I put the alternative carb on.
No backfire but still didn't want to run entirely smooth through the rpm range.

My rockers are a touch noisey...they are pretty old and worn out though lol.
Still has stock springs on the gt40p heads.
Anyway to change valve springs without pulling the plugs......I can't without lifting the motor and seperating the header lol.

im wondering if you have a bad spark plug or wire. the quick way i check for this is to take a squirt bottle and spray each header tube while the engine is running. the water will instantly sizzle if the cylinder is firing. if its not then it wont sizzle.

It was a combination of a ton of things apparently. Carb.....plug wires....the biggest issue being trying to work around the gt40p heads. .
Well the motor is out and I've decided to do something different and put a 87 turbo coupe drivetrains in the old girl.

I pick up the car Friday and plan to start the swap January - march depending on machine shop quickness lol.
