I have a B&M Hammer shifter in my car and it has worked great for years. All of a sudden, it will no longer ratchet down into first gear. It will ratchet down from drive into 2nd but will not move again to go into first. Nothing to my knowledge has changed at all. I am stumped why this would happen all of a sudden. I need help as I was planning to race next weekend and can't do it without this solved.

I know nothing much about those shifters but could something have fallen into the mechanism, wouldn't take much to stop it.

Have you checked the cable??? They do stretch over time...May simply need to lubricate the mechinism...Or the mechinism is getting worn out. Most likely dust/dirt or as moneymaker said...Something found its way in there and is jamming it up...Good luck man! hope its a simple fix for you.

Turns out there are two allen screws that fasten the shift lever to the mechanism and one of them had come out and was lodged in the mechanism. Go figure.

servicing it once or twice in "years" may have prevented this from happening...:yup:
