Ok got a stock 302 from a 71 mustang now I'm just wondering if it should stay stock or bigger crank cam pistons intake and a carb any suggestions . If I do go bigger what do I get. This will be my first rebuild so I'm green about proformence rebuilds

it really depends on your budget for the engine.... for a DD/ street car it would benefit from a mild cam.

the rolling assembly should be fine (crank, pistons, rods) unless you want to run power adders like nitrous.

a decent dual plane intake (i.e edelbrock performer rpm or maybe a weiland street warrior) would help

would also benefit from a good carb like a holley or edelbrock.

if you have the cash aluminum heads would be great (trickfows are popular) but for a street machine one of the better stock heads will do the job, such as gt40 heads which are found on cobra mustangs and earlier 5.0 explorers. another decent stock head is the e7 head, which is found in 1987 mustangs and up.

get a double roller timing set, the stock one might have factory cam timing retard in it, not good for performance generally.

these are not in order of importance but theres a good idea for a good reliable street screamer.

my sons maverick had a 200 6 cylinder in and we put a 302 in it.we had to change the motor stands, transmission mounts, throttle cable it was a pain finding the parts but it was worth it.good luck
