    Hello,

Has anyone converted their brake/tail/turn signals to LED's? If so, did you use a kit or how did you go about doing the conversion? I was thinking about it today, and thought it would be a worthwhile upgrade. I have no experience with the lights though, so I'm not quite sure what it would entail. Thanks for any assistance on this subject.

Well, it wouldn't be all that hard to retofit some LED pre-packaged bulbs, I think the only issue you would run into is you'd have to add some resistors to get the things to blink at the correct speed.

I am going with LED's in my Comet GT. I played with cutting out the back tail light housing and putting 6" ovals that you see on most trucks these days. They looked alright but not really the look I want. To get that look is gonna be expensive cause they will have to be custom built. Lambert Industries is the only one I know that do this.

you can get the LED 1157 replacement bulb. M.A.V... "had"... them on his car.

JMO..they are not what you want on a mav./comet for brake lights :tsk: . 2057 are a lot brighter.

the custom ones dennis is talking about might be better...frank...

led's are the next wave in lighting technology ...... within ten years most new application (home, business and auto will use them) .....the largest selection I have found for direct replacement units is ledtronics out of california www.ledtronics.com but if you want to wait a year or three, the prices will fall and you could custom build the entire rear panel to a led system for not much $$ ..... the big plus is LED's are built on a standard of 12 volt power ..... meaning auto applications are about the easiest and most common, with homes and businesses having to convert 110 v to 12 v ........Robert

Two 1973 LDO Mavericks (one 4 Drag one 4 driving like Mad on the roads :) ) also have a 75 6cyl Stock! Ok, well sort of Stock :P
any autoparts store now days carries LED replacements. 1157, 1156 etc.

just make sure you get the right length.

and be aware that not all LED ones are brighter then stock.

we have had samples here at work and not all of them worked well.. and like i said some were not as bright as the stock ones. but other wise most work well.

just to let you guys now... the import market help bring LEDs to the consumer.. wow rice in mavericks... :49: ;) :biglaugh:

    Re:LED lights

Guy's I tried the 1157 LEDs and they were not as bright as the stock 1157 bulbs. I took them back and bought the silver coated 2057 bulbs.....VERY bright. Just my opinion before you waste any money.

The other downside with using a product like the 1157 replacement LED's is that they don't occupy the full area of the taillight lens and, since LED's only direct light in front and not behind, no light is reflected off the metallic finish inside the housing, as would be the case with a standard bulb.

both of the aforementioned items are correct ...... remember, the main advantage to the led's is that they last ..... up to 100,000 hours ...... mainly, make sure they are what you want, because they won't burn out for a looong time, but they are the future .......Robert

They could make lightbulbs that never burn out either, but they just choose not to so they can keep selling new bulbs. There was a company that used to make quality light bulbs that never burned out, but guess what, they went out of business :slap: . We have one of those lightbulbs in our firestation in the town I live in, I believe it's lasted over 90 years so far, all time record in the country I believe. Exciting eh?

    au contraire' mavman427,

such companies still exist and, guess what, I rep one :) ....... This is my job to show people the difference and, of course, stay involved in the current issues of the field such as led lighting. There are plenty of sites on the internet that sell longlife products and, of course, as a salesman, I would be remiss if I didn't invite you to visit mine www.robertharrisonline.com

I do not sell from the site because I just rep for the company and internet sales are not credited to me. I don't plan on creating my own company per say with inv. and all, but plan on, by the middle of the summer, having several complimentary lines of product. ok, enuf, but suffice to say if you want long life light bulbs, contact me and I will hook you up.:yup: Or at the least, show you how they work.;)
hope I didn't hijack this thing too bad :tsk: .....but you know, sometimes you just get excited about sumthin' and poof, :bouncy: off you go ......Robert
