Have not posted in a while but I am at a cross roads with my projects. Just building something fun to drive. Have a truck for transportation and hauling needs, these are just my toys.

I have a '74 Maverick 2 door without an engine or trans. Was a 6 cyl car but have all the stuff to install 302.

    I have a '69 F100 Flare side with a 240 straight 6 and a 3 speed manual that is running and driving.

    Other parts I have are a freshly rebuilt 302, a C4, a T56 6 speed, a complete 8.8 rear end out of a SN95 Cobra and a complete 4.9 EFI I6 with AOD and all wiring out of a '90 F150.

    Choose your own adventure!

    302 with C4 in Maverick?

4.9 EFI with AOD in Maverick?

240 and C4 in Maverick and 302 in truck?

You make the call. What would you do?

Thanks in advance for any and all input!

the 302 is plenty of fun and an over drive would make it a great cruiser that you could afford to travel with if you so wanted

302 and a C4 is OK, but rowing your own gears is what really makes it fun. I was satisfied with the C4 in my 77 for the past 6 years or so, left the Toploader 4 speed hangin in the rafters til a few months ago. Finally got around to rebuilding it and buying a hydro clutch kit. NOW THIS CAR IS FUN !!!!!. If there's a way to stick that 6 speed in there, by all means do so. And being in Colorado, I would also do some serious suspension upgrades to take advantage of those twisty winding mountain roads. I made a late evening run across Independence pass in my old 06 GT Stang a few years ago from the Aspen side eastbound. I took full advantage of the 5 speed manual in that car, and it's stiff suspension, Aspen to US 24 was done in about an hour. THAT was a blast.

The 240 isn't going to fit the mav without some major hacking, let that be your guide...

I thank you all for your input!

I just picked up a run stand from a friend and have a little more to clean in the garage.

Hoping to have the engine and trans on the run stand this week and get it broken in next week so it can be ready to go into the car.

I think at this point and time I am going to put the 302 and the C4 into the Mav and at least get it on the road. I bought this car over 2 years ago and I still have not driven it!

Later down the road I will pull together everything I need to do the hydraulic clutch and put the T56 in as phase 2. Plus the Cobra rear end as phase 2.1.

Thanks again for all your input.

That sounds like a good time!

I have driven that road a few times but never in something that was built for speed and handling. Adding that to the list of "test spots" for sure. What hydo kit did you order for your swap?

I went with the Modern Driveline kit. But made some changes after installing it. Had to add firewall support to get rid of some flexing in the wall. If you'll do a search here, you'll dig up what changes I made with pics. Now that I've done the mods, I'm very satisfied with it all. If you still have questions, after seeing what I did, ask away. We're going back up there in the next couple months, but won't get to 'enjoy" the roads like those two trips in the 06 Stang . We've got a 96 E150 conversion van making the trip this year. Gonna hit Leadville and then down to the San Juans this time.
