I flushed the cooling system, replaced the thermostat, new water pump, new Ignition Coil and Ignition Control Module. The car gets hot and shuts off while driving and/or not restart after it is hot for well over an hour or two. With all this I still have that problem, I do not think it is my Head Gasket, as I do not have any smoke at all come from my motor and never have. The electronic choke thermostat is only two years old, I only mentioned that because a friend had suggested it could be a problem.

Do you have a fan shroud on it. Flushing the cooling system does not mean your radiator is good. Radiator flues get stopped up with deposits. You should take it off and take it to a radiator repair shop or replace it with a new one. if it gets hot and shuts down you have probably already ruined your engine. Air has to go thru the radiator to cool. There are so many things that will cause a cooling system to get hot. It's hard to tell someone what to do. Not trying to be smart just been there many times. Probably didn't help you. Just trying to explain a few things.

Thanks Ron, maybe a new radiator is the key. I don't think the motor is ruined, she runs like a champ till it gets hot and does not burn oil, or smoke at all. I replaced everything else, so I may as well take your advice and get a new radiator, can't hurt for sure, Thanks Again

Does it get so hot it shuts itself down? That would cause damage every time it happens.

Does your temp gauge show extremely high?

Does it turn over normally when you try to start it after one of these episodes or turn over very slowly or not at all?

Next time it dies, pop the top off the air cleaner and see if you have gas when you move the throttle linkage. Sounds like it could be vapor lock.

When you say "gets hot and shuts off" do you mean reaches operating temp or do you have a gauge reading the temp?
The reason I ask is I have seen ignition coils (even new ones) quit firing when they get hot.. Once cooled they will fire again.....

I was about to say the coil may be your problem it wouldn't just shut down and the motor run fine if it was a cooling problem, you probably would have blown the head gasket by now

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions, but I am having a mechanic come over to check it out, he specializes in older vehicles.

Nailed it! Radiator clogged to high heaven, the one thing I never did was check the lower hose after the motor was hot. Top hose hot bottom hose cool, but it's the original 40 year old radiator so it way past time to replace. I've only had it 3 years so one thing at a time. On a side note, I was amazed to find a brand new OE radiator for $167.00 at O'reilly auto parts . . . who would have guessed it lol. So glad I did not blow up my motor!

    A General Thank's

Just wanted to say thanks for the support on my first forum issue, nice to know I can get good advice from folks here about my car. We are all in a class of our own with these cars, I can't go anywhere without people staring or trying to buy it from me.
