My dad has been sitting on this Maverick for years and i finally convinced him to let me have it. i spent all last weekend cleaning it up and figuring out what it needs to get running again. it was originally an inline six car with a manual but somebody had installed a V8. we thought it was a 302 but when my dad tried to convert it to an automatic so my older sister could drive it he couldn't find a tranny that fit, so he gave up and its been sitting ever since. i decided to stick with the manual since they'er more fun to drive anyway. after checking the casting number on the block it turned out to be a 221 out of a 62 fairlane, hence the tranny issue i assume. I've decided to do the bare minimum at the moment just to get it going, and probably transfer an actual 302 and 5spd later. I've been doing a little research and i think i might have one of the first grabbers. after pulling out the interior which is original black vinal i found that the paint was also originally orange. i had a hard time understanding all the weird names for colors they had back then but i'm pretty sure orange wasn't a base color. I'm curious if there are any other ways to know for sure?
Welcome from Northern California! We are having a car show at the end of June. Maybe you can make it. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=98672
Car doesn't look like it has some of the essential items to be a 1970 Maverick Grabber, like sport mirrors and a rear spoiler. It also looks like it has 1971 deluxe door panels. Those are real hard to find...so don't throw those away.
