Well it's done. This is one scary MF though. When you shift into second and nail the go pedal, the car wants to go SIDEWAYS !!!! you've got to be on your toes driving it with the 331 sixpack. Now as for the Modern Driveline hydro kit: The firewall lacks sufficient support, I can see some movement in the wall when the pedal is depressed, this is going to eventually cause a firewall failure in the future if I do nothing about it. Summit Racing lists a McCleod hydro kit on their website for a Classic Stang that's got a much better firewall mount, it sandwiches between the pedal hanger and the firewall to hang it and is made of steel, I think I'm going to fab one like it to reinforce my firewall on the inside. I had fab'd a small aluminum brace for the outside of mine, but it's really too small to do much more than what the outer bracket of the Modern driveline kit does. And the McCleod kit costs the same as the Modern Driveline kit. The pedal effort of the Modern kit seems to be not much better than what the effort was in my 89 Ranger, although it's been a few years since then.
Sounds fun! Can't wait to play with the extra bit of torque multiplication from my worked C4 too. What about preloading the right rear a bit to help straighten things out? Sure is fun to slide around sometimes.. but it sure sucks when you give up lengths and lose races while doing it.
I don't have any fluid in mine yet, but the 1/4 inch plate that rosehill supplied for the inside seems to tighten it up pretty good.. My pedal bottoms out about an inch off the floor so I will be installing a pedal stop for sure...
It would go sideways a bit too with my C4 when shifting from 1st to 2nd, but nothing like it does now, Looks like I need to get into the suspension, never having felt the need to before now. Getting sideways is fun except when you inadvertently do it with oncoming traffic in the other lane :16suspect Got to get under it and do some adjusting on reverse too, it's not going fully into it when you shift there.
http://www.rosehillperformanceparts.com/ Yes this is the kit I used.. Scroll down you will see The external slave bracket and the master firewall reinforcing bracket... First click on the products link in the upper left hand corner..
The only firewall support bracket I see there is puny, it's not going to keep the wall from flexing and eventually failing. When you have a friend handy, get them to work the pedal while you watch the area around the master cylinder, you will see the firewall flexing. I went thru all this with my 89 Ranger. The firewall flexed and eventually failed altogether, I literally put my foot thru the floor. Go to Summit's site and look up McCleod's kit for the classic Stangs, THAT is a support brace.
