I wanted to upgrade the stereo in my 1977 Ford Maverick. At first I wanted to leave the stock look so I bought one of those mini amps off Ebay. I installed 2 6x9s in the rear deck (car only had front center speaker). I then powered them with the mini amp so I could run my ipod. It sounded ok but I really had no tone control. I then re-programmed my ipod with custom eq settings. It sounded a little better but not what I was looking for. I checked into one of those retro sound stereos but didn't want to spend $350 on a new unit. So, I went ahead and used a dremmel to trim the original bezel and fit in an Alpine unit that I had sitting around. The new unit even has a USB port so I have all my music on a flash drive. This sounded really good but I wanted some more bass. I didn't have a bunch of extra funds for a whole amp/sub/capacitor setup so I bought one of those self powered subwoofers for the trunk. This really woke the sound system up and it sounds great! I know it's not a high dollar set up but for the volume I like and the money spent I think it's awesome! The sub is a Kicker Bass Station that I got on sale for $140 and it only took about 45 mins to run all the wires and hook it up. This system definitely gives me all I need and didn't break the bank. sub.jpg [/img]

I went a little overboard on my stereo. I wouldnt do it like this again now that Im older but it still looks good. I have since replaced the tweed with black vinyl and its much better but dont have any current pics.

I am actually considering doubling up on speakers to get more volume for my next setup. I cant seem to get it load enough. So... 4 pairs at 2ohms amp'd should do the trick. I just have to figure out how to mount the ones up front without it looking ridiculous.
