Yep, DAB's Drag-N-Fly in all of its glory! My car did surprisingly well. Did 90 miles round trip at 65 mph, mostly freeway, on less than 1/4 tank, just a touch over 1/8th tank. Nothing broke, overheated, or fell off, so I consider that a successful trip! Still need more caster on the alignment. .7 degrees was all that first guy could get me, and I need more like 3 or 4 degrees. So the steering feels WAY too loose. Dave, I see you are knocking on the door at the 16,000 club...
Sounds like a good time. I can't wait for our snow to melt away completely! So, I have to ask. How does that mileage compare to when you ran ported vacuum? Did you like the extra response(torque) under lighter pedal transitions? Up longer hills.. etc. I would assume your result is as mine and others has always been. Allowing lighter throttle angles heading down the highway with leaner cruise mixtures usually equates to better MPG. I always thought the extra torque was my little bonus for all that extra tuning work.
I don't have any numbers to compare. I always got pretty good gas mileage, and have always been able to pull around 20 mpg if I keep my foot out of it. But it seems like it is sipping it a bit less than it used to. I don't have to pump it to start it now, and if I do, it actually will not start. I don't have to keep my foot on the gas when it is cold (no choke). Once it starts up, it idles just fine without me having to keep it alive until it warms up. It is a touch rich at idle, and smells a bit gassy, but it runs much better once i take off. I think I am pretty close to where I need to be on the tuning, and I will not mess with it too much more.
Cool. Sounds like you want to just give it a rest and enjoy the fruits of your labor for a while. Just keep in mind that it'll likely get worse when the weather gets hotter though. We can re-tweak it a bit more later on when the highly motivational "HP bug" bites you in your you know what again. Trust me here bud.. there's probably plenty more in it but with cast pistons it pays to slowly sneak up on it. Higher initial.. shorter mechanical sweep.. similar vac adv pull. More torque on heavy throttle tip in.. great top end.. and better mileage to boot. You'll get there.
One of the other members brought a "real" camera and took lots of pictures, including group poses, and individuals with their cars. I assumed those would show up here somewhere, at some point. So I only took one to send via text message to Phreeq who could not attend. This is that picture.
Several cars were torn down in various states of repair. So the owners showed up in daily drivers. I almost did the same. So did Phreeq, but he forgot completely to show up. Luckily, I had spring break at the school I work at so I could get mine street legal and street safe before this weekend. Even though the carb is still not dialed in and is running rich. But still, we made it!
