core plugs install

    Hello, can you tell me what is the best sealant to use when installing core (freeze plugs).? Thanks again for helping with my blow by and pinging problem. I found broken rings on all but #1 piston. When I pilled the starter a nut fell out That was the pinging problem (30 years on the flight line):drive:

    X2 on the shellac. I wouldn't use silicone

    I usually just clean up the plug bores real well and then use red Loctite. The old style shellac works well enough to.
