I just got a 73 Comet with a manual transmission and really needed a tachometer so I got a sunpro at auto zone. I have a basic idea on what to do...................with a newer car. With an older fuse box that uses glass fuses could I put the wire in place and the put the glass fuse in on top of it like you can with a newer fuse box? This would pertain to the power wire and illumination. How do you guys have yours setup?

I would get another fuse block, run power from the starter solenoid to it. then run a wire to the gauge from one of the fuses. you will have extra for other mods. later.

On my tech. I came off a 20A ignition fuse and ran a sub fuse block with 5, 10Amp fuse's. then powered up my tachometer' as for the light I powered it up on the same fuse, I like having the light on all the time even In the daytime, Its easier to keep an eye on it when its lite up.

Ran my illumination to the gauges frm the headlight dimmer sw. That way, I can adjust the brightness to lighting situations.

I third that one. black = ground
red = switched + I came off ignition power (before ballast wire)
white = illumination + I came off the dimmer /cluster light circuit
green = tach signal from dist or - terminal on coil..

I think these are standard aftermarket tach wire colors. I could be wrong tho...has happened before once or twice... no one died tho so its all good.
