    9inch Question

No the Maverick or Comet did not come with a 9inch, only 7.5 and 8inch. Some early Stangs in 60's era had them but to find one is almost impossable, and damn high priced too. Give me some info on why you want to change over to 9in and I can help with some answers with more detail. Have shortned some 9's to fit and is not a real hard job if you have some basic tools etc.

Hi. I put a 9" in my '70 Mav about 8 years ago. I used one from a '70 Mustang. It's about 2 inches wider than a Maverick / early Mustang rear, but I found some 6" wide Cragar SST wheels that were offset 4" towards the inside so everything fits OK.

That was going to be my reply...
69-70 Stang rears fit fine, but you need to compensate with about an inch of extra backspacing on your rims.
Seen it done a few times.

I got lucky and found a 1957 ford 9 inc in a farmers field with gunshot wounds in the body. Got it for 25 beans and it had a 3.70 with ( i believe a "war " casting ) any way it has the large bearings and a 370 gear. it didnt have axles 28 spline and found granada 8" 28 spline axles fit perfectly. Fit the car perfectly. 1957 had the narrowest 9" from the factory you can find .... now anyone out west can probably find these vintage pieces ... alot of guys woul love to hav-em

a "WAR" casting refers to a particular type of casting of the 9" third member. Some say they're good, others say they're junk. Here's a link to some 9" and 8" info.
