I heard about a Maverick in a local junk yard close to home, so today i decided to go look, sure enough there she was a white 4 door with a vinyl top. Looked under the hood and found a V-8, or should i say a perfectly stock V-8 rite down to the 302 2 BBL air cleaner. I got my usual parts that i hoard up, walked around back to look at the lights and low and behold a factory made trailer hitch. Made by drawtite, I figured when these cars were new you could buy one, but i never figured i would find one, I was more happy about that than the shock tower braces. Going to sandblast and paint it up and install it on the Maverick just to aggervate my buddies with their trailer cars. Ever saw a 10 second MAVERICK with a Hitch?
I didn't know there was such a thing as a factory Maverick trailer hitch... What was so great about the shock tower braces? Did you get the frame mounts and transmission crossmember?
What i mean is a factory such as drawtite, valley ect. The shock tower or cowl braces around here are like gold. No the motor is still in the car and i dont need the mounts that bad, ditto for the crossmember, ( i have extra ones of these)
that is one of the coolest (and funniest ) ideas i have heard of. great find. i keep hearing that mavs and comet end up in junkyards but they never seem to in florida. i guesss they are still enjoying their retirement down south.
Are you talking about the shocktower-to-firewall brace? I have a set in the attic just wasting away. PM me if you want them.
was that trailer hitch under the bumper or was it bolted to the bumper? there's a maverick in the junkyard here that has one bolted to the bumper. when i saw the small bumper still on i just about ran to the rear of the car.
Ohh, I see. I thought you were saying like a factory Ford trailer hitch. LOL Shock tower braces are a dime a dozen around here. I have a pile of them and have passed up tons of them in junkyards. The V8 swap parts are what I'm always after. You could probably get upwards of $200+ out of the V8 specific parts (frame mounts, throttle cable and intake bracket, cross member that bolts on under the engine, transmission crossmember...)
No I was thinking of getting as many braces and mounts as I could and powder coating them and giving them to those that may want them....just trying to be nice. *One of your braces is pitted pretty bad and I think I am going to replace it with one I have. the bad thing about the chrome is if you coat on really pitted stuff....it magnifies it a BUNCH~! The other colors are not as bad....but with the reflectiveness of the chrome, its pretty ugly.
I guess its looking grim for the boomerangs then. BTW thanks if you switch out my brace for a better one, thats mighty nice of you John.
yeah I did the booms last night...they did not look good at all. I am still going to work with them and see if I can get them any better. No problem on the brace. I figured since the mounts and the (one) brace looked good, there was no since in doing the other one; I knew what it would look like. *now quit threadjacking
