Just took of my cover off to drill out for dipstick and the chain seems to have a lot of slack in it. I guess i should replace it now. What should i get a stock chain from autozone ?
If the motor is stock I would put an oem style chain back in it.But a double roller chain seems to be more durable and would be a direct bolt in.
Slack is common tho, to a degree. It will show more on one side than the other unless you back the crank off slightly. Definitly worth the purchase of a new one if you have high miles. I'm considering direct drive gears myself. I want noise lol.
Get a Cloys true roller. For the extra 10 bucks it worth the effort.Dont forget to put a new front seal in that timing cover while its off the engine.
Gene if you go to a gear drive...dont forget to cut the oil drip rail off the inside of the cover.Otherwise you will go nuts trying to get the cover back on.
Im thinkin i might slow down and insteed of slapin some new parts on a high mile motor i might get a rebuild kit for it. But i really want to drive it this summer and im afraid if i get into the motor anymore is going to be down for a long time. Decisions Decisions...........................
get the cloys chain. i got one from pep boys 5 years ago. they had it in stock and it wasnt very expensive.
