ok this is the carb that is at my local advance just wonder with it have an none adjustable floats is that bad?? or should i just replace what i have with adjustable floats? http://www.holley.com/0-80457S.asp
or what about an edelbrock been reading up on it and more people get a 600 edelbrock and just bolt them on set the idle and leave them which one is easier for a daily driver
Im not sure about those "next gen" floats but I'm assuming they still have to be set if you tear it apart. It comes preset however. From what I've been getting from you posts, you don't want to bother messing with adjusting a carb or don't want to learn how to. So, best thing for you to do is just buy a Edelbrock/Holley and throw it on. They come factory pretuned to an extent and it will most likely run better than what you have now. The downfall is that eventually the carb will need rebuilt or retuned and then since you don't want to mess with it, or don't know how to.... you'll need to buy another new carb.
Sound like a good thing in your case, it's one less thing to worry about. it doensn't even have the spot tappet for the nut/adjuster, so im guessing you don't even have to set it when you rebuild it.
got ya well i found out that my local advance has the 1406 model of edelbrock instock so im going to pick it up tonight when i go back out i want to learn how and from the research ive done edelbrocks are easier and hold a tune better then holleys
I used a 1406's and Holley 4160's, as far as tuning and reliability goes. They're about the same. When your dealing with a stock engine you cant go wrong with either choice.... when you start modifying them, that's when Holley's outshine Edelbrock/carters.
ok then well its just a stock engine and i just from what ive read and have been told edelbrock is what i need to get and just bolt it right on and start her just making sure with another outlet before i buy it
the 1406 does not just bolt it you need to buy a kit to hook it up this one :Handshake http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-1483/ your parts store should have it in stock also.
Wow, never knew Edelbrocks didn't come with that... Every single one I've seen just needed a throttle ball to bolt onto the carb... Even the remanned one we bought from jegs just bolted other than the throttle ball. And the one one his current carb could be swapped if its a bolt on type, not a built on one I guess I've been lucky? They've just been bolt it down w/ the 4 studs on the intake, attach the throttle return spring, attach the throttle cable via the snap/ball, and attach the gas line
i had to buy that kit i couldn't figure out how to hook up the kickdown, but the kit came with the instruction and everything and worked fine. i was 15 at the time also doing my first carb swap ever, so maybe it was more to do with that
