Yes. If your wiring diagram is like my '72 diagram, you can trace the wire from the ignition switch to the coil. My diagram has it marked as a resistance wire. Since I needed 12V for the HEI distributor, I stripped the wire close to the connector under that dash by the steering column and soldered a wire on to it. Ran that wire to the distributor to avoid the resistance wire. The resistance wire drops the voltage to the coil when the engine is running. (Didn't we discuss this in a previous thread, or was that someone else?) I don't know if the Duraspark wants 12V or the reduced voltage to the coil. Think you'll find the answer if you do a search here or maybe someone will chiime in.
It must have been someone else. This is my first time on this subject. I only thought abt it when I saw ur Sticky Ign. Thread. Hopefully get some more thoughts on this issur. Anyway, appreciate ur help.
With that diagram its hard to imagine how the coil is being powered from the ACC post of the ignition switch thru the resistance wire. Thought I had an idea that would help you but guess not. I'd still have a look at the wires and connectors by the steering column under the dash to see if anything looks boogered up.
I pulled the steering wheel, turn signal switch, ignition electrical switch, and key lock all out and have the rod for the ignition switch and wheel lock shaft all moving freely. Tried working the electrical switch with PB Blaster to free it up but it still doesn't have enough spring to return the key from start to run position. Ordered a new switch and will pick it up tomorrow. Expect that'll fix it. Thanks for the info.
