I'm trying to figure out how the steering column bolts up under the dash. The diagram I have looks like there should be a stove bolt coming down from the top through the aluminum spacer but the square opening on the top bracket looks too large for a conventional stove bolt. What kind of hardware should I be looking for?
It is a square headed bolt, just not your typical hardware store bolt. It's a 3/8"NC thread bolt about an inch long or so, the nut is an integral washered nut, knurled on it's face to lock it in place when tightened
Thanks baddad I am amazed by the variety of fasteners Ford used to build such a basic car. Unless someone out there has a pair they can part with i'll have to improvise.
I probably have the bolts. Can you post up a picture of what your underdash looks like. I think the bolts should be on the brake pedal mount.
