v8 motor mounts... I got them used along with the frame mounts, and on one of the motor mounts, the rubber part has become split off from the metal part. I read in another article about drilling out that goofy pin in the center of the mount and putting in some good ol' grade 8 hardware, but I don't know if it'll work in this situation.... any opinions??
I would just buy a new one. They are not all that expensive, and I got mine at Checker. I want to say it was less than $20.
The "bolting" you refer to makes the motor mount a "solid" mount. It'd rattle your teeth out probably, but it would work. Like the other guys say, a new support isn't that expensive.
Checker is an auto parts store, I presume?? I work at Advance Auto Parts, but the jackasses don't carry anything but solid motor mounts for the thing...
I hate to disagree with you, but I bought mine from Advance. Ordered them direct from their website and they shipped them direct to me.
Not quite as bad as you think! I bolted my mount after I broke a few. First I just used a camper hook and chain...that made the car very rough..much to rough for me. I decided to try and bolt the mount instead and found only a little bit more vibration than before...and it never broke again! The rubber still absorbs the vibrations..even with the bolt. That was about 12 or so years ago and its still going strong!
Good point. As long as the bolt isn't cinched too tightly, it shouldn't keep the rubber from doing it's job in compression (Poisson's Ratio reference).
