Well after finally puting the MSD box and elect. dist. I plan on going to the track Wednesday night and I want to get the most out of the little mav. What gap should I use? I have heard with the MSD box you should open the gap to allow for better spark but I am not sure how much. The run down on my mav 73, auto, headers, exhaust, 650 carb, and performer II intake. Thanks guys and wish me luck. Time to teach the hondas a lesson (tee hee).

I run a MSD setup also. My local speedshop told me I don't need to run huge gaps with the MSD..although you can if you like. The larger the gap, the more likly the chances of a missfire as the RPM goes up as the spark will try and find the point of least resistance. Since I've reduced my gap(I sidegap my plugs) the rpms above 5500rpm have givin me not one problem. I currently run a .045gap. The best features of the MSD is...well...the Multiple spark and the increased spark energy...which will give you better economy, throttle response and more power. The MSD setup works great...I went from points to a Ford Duraspark 2 setup and the difference was great..then I went with the Holly Annihilator and truthfully didn't notice any differance...then I tried the MSD...wow night and day differance. Anyway these are just my thoughts and someone my or may not have a differant view. By the way..my streetcar ran 122mph in the quarter at the local track this summer..so it works for me,

Thanks for the info. I am currently running them at .046. I thought that was big enough but I just wanted to check.

i ran 42 degrees total timing with an msd box and msd distributor. also edeelbrock aluminum heads. i couldn't get any color in the plugs at bakersfield, even after changing the jets 5 times. after talking to chuck hawk who runs ford dragsters and owns chuck hawks performance in tucson and don toia who owns dons hot rod shop. we decided i needed to run a colder plug. i was gapping at 46 and they both said the shorter the gap the better it would run and the ignition would not work as hard. we gapped them at 35 and it seems to be working great. will check the plugs at firebird next weekend for the fun ford weekend.:)
