Shock spacer question

    Here is one that should be a pretty quick answer. The rear shocks on my 71 have a spacer. My question is does that spacer go on the inside of the upper attachment bracket thus moving the eye of the shock away from the bracket or rather on the outside of the bracket having no effect on the shock but rather accommodating the bolt length. Attached is a picture from a vintage Chilton manual suggesting the outside position. The overall fit seems better on the outside.

    I think they would have just used a shorter bolt if the spacer wasn't needed on the inside...:yup:

    Bolt goes through shock, then spacer, then bracket, then lock washer, then nut.
