All pulleys, brackets, and sometimes water pump need to be changed out to run serpentine.

Not necessarily. I've seen at least one Ford T-Bird (think it was an 83-84) that had both style belts. But in his case, yea he'll likely need to go to a different FEAD

i'll look at it again in the morning but it dosnt look like i will have to change the pulleys or brackets. I'd like to be able to use the pulleys i already have so i dont have to spend money on another set. the water pump pulley is double because i took it off my 74 250 I6 motor, the single crank pulley is off of a V8.

If you have V groove pulleys, you can't run a flat serpentine style belt on them, and I don't think trying to run a v belt serpentine style will work, either. You'll have to find a set of multi rib flat pulleys to go serpentine. Junkyards are full of them, so it shouldn't be hard to find a set......

The easiest FEAD (Front End Accessory Drive)to do what you're asking is what was used on the 86-91 Crown Vic/ Towncar/ Marquis 5.0. Everything is run on a single flat belt and uses a std rotation waterpump. With this FEAD, the alternator and powersteering pump are mounted on a common bracket on the driver's side head. The crank pulley is a two sheeve pulley, the other sheeve runs the A/C and smog pump, both hung off the passenger side head.

Good info!! Since its a std rotation water pump, can the older timing cover with manual fuel pump boss and front sump dip stick be used with the serpentine water pump?

That's what I'm running, but I kept the alternator in it's original location.

Yes. In fact I'm running the same old water pump. Had to space the alternator out to get the pulleys to align.

Hmmm................................ Looks like you could maybe run the Ford Racing "Short" water pump and move the alternator backwards to it's original position. I'll have to mock that up if I ever run across a set of Vic pulleys, I have the pump, just never got around to doing anything with it. And just FYI, if you go to the parts house and ask for a late 88-to 91 Crown Vic pump, it'll be an aluminum one instead of the pre-early 88 pump like you've got there. I've got the late aluminum pump on my Comet's 331

Yes, it's the same old std rotation pump they used with the V-belts. If you want an aluminum one without paying thru the nose for one, ask for a late 88-91 Vic pump at the parts house.

i went and looked it over again, the crank would be turning the water pump and the power steering pump with one long belt and then a smaller belt at the top would go from the water pump to the altenator. in a nutshell look at a pic of a factory 302 pulley set up and flip it up side down and imagine the water pump where the crank is where the crank is, if that make any sence lol.

single groove pulley at the bottom and a dual groove pulley at the top

Thanks!! Didn't know the serpentine pulley would fit with the old timing cover and water pump.

I have a 100 A alternator, original PS pump, and Sanden AC compressor. It would be nice if the donor serpentine pulleys could be transferred to the alternator and compressor. Updated PS pump would be a plus.

The water pump pulley bolt circles are different diameters depending if the pulley is for a standard-rotation or reverse rotation pump, so the Crown Vic's ribbed pulley bolted right on to my old standard-rotation pump. I looked at Ford's short pump but decide to keep something that was readily available at a parts store. It took me about 6 months to find the pulleys, a guy on another forum had the whole set for $40 including the power steering pump pulley, which I'm not using.
