semi automatic trans

    my 69.5 came out with a semi automatic trans,,it even says it on the shift indicator,,it has a regular automatic in it now,,because the semi went bad,,but the guy i bought it from was the original owner and he saved the semi auto,,since were building the car back to complete stock,my question is should i try and rebuild the semi auto trans and are they any count,,,i have never heard of a semi auto trans:cry:

    I have an 1970 Preliminary Shop Manual which covers that transmission.

    I don't know of anybody on the board with a semi-auto in their car. If it was mine ... I would definitely restore it with the semi-auto in there ... just to be different! Worse case you could just swap a manual valve-body into your current C4 ...

    In all my years....having owned many, many Mavericks and Comets...and having seen many, many more. I have only seen ONE Semi-Automatic car. It was for sale, wrecked in the front. Probably should have bought it.

    By all means fix up and install the semi-automatic trans, It is a a C4 with a factory manual valve body in it. YOu can do any of the mods to that tranny that you would to any other C4 with the exception of the valve body. Don't make any changes to it other than possibly a main pressure regulator spring from any of the aftermarket kits. Transgo has some cheep kits that all contain a main regulator spring. Don't do any other mods on the valve body. You will end up with a great piece of Maverick history and a VERY RARE Maverick.

    ok guys thanx for all the great feedback on the semi auto trans:clap: ,,,it is now dicided that it will be rebuilt and put back in:thumbs2: ,,that is on down the road a lil bit,but it is now on the to do list,,,all of you know i will have a bunch of dumb questions about building it when we get to it:hmmm: ,,so i hope yal can put up with me and my son as we go though it,,thanx alot guys my son really enjoys reading your feedback and saying see dad i told you them guys would know what to do:urock:

    and I will be glad to help anyway I can. I have pictures of tools you can make, specs, forms, and the adjustments that you will need. I do suggest that you get the Haynes Ford Transmission Repair book at your local parts store and read through it a few times to get the feel of what you will be doing. There is also a VHS tape you can buy that I hear is pretty good. You have all the help I can provide from here in Seattle.
