Last night while trying to get my Mav running we found that the sending unit in the gas tank was shot. The gas tank itself might be trashed enough also that I need a new one. I can't get a sending unit from the local auto shops so I guess that leaves me with hunting a salvaged car or buying an aftermarket. What are some good aftermarket tanks for my Mav? Anyone here have a tank in decent shape with a decent sending unit that they would sell?
mavaholic has a great article on here about putting an early mustang tank & sender in. i did & it was fairly easy, cheaper, & gives equal space for exhaust on both sides of the tank. do a search.
I promise that if you look on ebay, you will see an unlimited supply of them. As for the tank, a little harder to come by. I took mine off and filled it full of fish tank gravel and shook the crap out of it for a few hours (if I was at the ranch, I would have attached it to the cement mixer and let it tumble for a while). Then get all the rocks out when all the big chunks of rust are knocked loose. Then check this place out www.hirschauto.com for a $35 kit that has an "etcher" and an epoxy coating for the tank. I used one quart of the epoxy, but I would recommend using two quarts. This will line your tank with a white epoxy coating to prevent any future rust. Never had any rust in my fuel line since, and that was about 3 or 4 years ago.
Try http://www.gastanks.com/ for the tank. Call John Wolf at (440)942-0083 to get your old sending unit working again.
