I just finished (for the most part) redoing my engine. It has new pistons, rings, main and rod bearing, and gaskets. I'm still in the testing and engine break in phase. I've been chasing down and fixing all the small problems. I just changed the oil from SAE 30 engine break in oil to convention 10W30 oil after the first 50 miles. Since the oil change, the the oil pressure warning light is starting to come on. I've added a new sensor, while I previously didn't have one. It comes on once the engine starts the come up to temperature. I have a mechanical oil pressure and temperature gauge hooked up through an oil filter adapter plate. When the oil temperature reaches 210F, I'm getting 30psi at idle. Once I get the pressure over 50psi the light goes out. When it's on, it flickers in a way that corresponds to the rpm. The oil level is where it should be. Could this be a problem with the sensor? Any ideas?
A factory oil pressure warning light is not supposed to come on till pressure is below 6 psi. If you have 30 the sender is goofy.
Wow, that's a really low pressure. I wonder if I messed it up when I used an adjustable pliers wrench to get it on. It was the only tool I could find that could get enough of a grip to screw it in.
A new oil sensor is on order. I may order an oil sensor socket. I didn't know that's a thing. There should be a socket that's big enough somewhere, but I couldn't find one at the time. All my roommates are car people, and we have so many tools that I have to climb over things to get from one end of the garage to the other. It can be impossible to find things at times.
