I've been a member for about 6 years now but mostly lurk. However, as the Mav project is rolling again (in a manner of speaking), thought I'd post a couple pics of the beginning and where I am now with a homemade rotisserie. Hopefully the car will be completely mounted in a couple weeks and the rebuilding phase will begin! Planned changes are: Grabber hood, small bumper swap, 302 EFI, 9 inch rear, new paint and wheels (of course), disc brakes, Mustang gas tank swap...and probably a few other things along the way. Most of the parts are collected so the limiting factor is my free time!
I've never made a rotisserie before so forgive me if i'm off base. But wouldn't you want the pivot point lower? Like more in line with what would be the center of gravity of the chassis? That looks like it will be a pain in the butt to rotate and be very out of balance when on its side. Besides that good luck on the build. I wish I had the room and tools to build a rotissirie when I built my car.
What doesn't show up in the photo very well is that it is height adjustable. I should be able to raise it so that the middle of the radiator is at the pivot point. Just finished the rear girdle that mounts to the car .... now to finish the rear stand. I'll post more pics when its out in the sunlight again!
Ok I see that now. Good thinking. It can be low when sitting right side up but move it up to rotate it then adust the height to a comfortable working position. Good work
out of lurkness I built my own rotisserie out of heavy duty engine stands too but they are not adjustable. Not a good idea.
Thanks for the (re)welcome! Mav1970....photos and your write up of your stands were the main basis of mine. I did see how high you had to get your car off the ground to get it mounted and started looking for ways around that. Thanks for the initial inspiration!
Since the floor to my overhead garage center beam measured 90 inches, my car needed to pivot over on a 45 inch centerline - that worked out fine but instead of my mount points being at the bumper bracket holes, I believe the center of the radiator opening would have been much better choice - I have to roll mine over at least one more time, and now it has a cage in it, so it will not be rolling over again until I make some new brackets to correct the centerpoint
