Love these kinds of sites... I have my eyes on a 72 Comet that is in great shape, and for a great price. I have restored a Cougar, several Mustangs and am currently working on a 70 Cyclone Spoiler. Knowing what it takes to find anything for the Spoiler, I am curious as to what is available for Mavericks & Comets in the repro world. Mainly upholstry. This car has the LDO option and I really liked the interiors on these cars. Classy little econo box! ( top this Japan! :tsk: ) Does anybody reproduce the seat covers for the LDOs? How about the GTs since that would be plan B ? I have a low mileage 71 302, a set of pedals for a stick, and a steering column w/o shifter to switch it to a 4/5spd so I'm thinkin I need to buy this car :coco: ... to go with my parts :hmmm: . Also, who has parts? I have seen Autokrafters books, but that's it for Mavs and Coms... Anyway... Great site. Hope to be family soon. Thanks in advance.

    Tony-
At this time I personally have not heard of anyone reproducing presewn upholstery kits for these cars-even GT's and Grabbers. Fortunately the materials are fairly basic, plain
vinyl and some comfortweave inserts on the '70-'72 stuff just like Mustang buckets.

Sheet metal is an issue. Reproduction quarters are made. I have never needed them but I have heard good and bad about quality. There are rocker panels I believe. That's it. No doors or door skins. No fenders, no hoods. Some of this is available in fiberglass as these are popular low budget drag cars. Many of the reproduction mechanical parts
are available or are interchangeable with other Ford family cars.
The clutch/brake pedal assembly is unique I believe. The pivot/Z-bar for factory V8
cars is supposedly hard to find, but cable clutch assemblies supposedly work for 5 spd. conversions.
Headliners and carpet are reproduced. Dash pads are not although dash cap covers are. Door panels are not reproduced.

Look closely and you will likely find that '69-'73 Mavericks and Comets are more like a
'65-'68 Mustang than '69 and up Mustangs.
-metal doors with flat insert door panels
-wheelbase and width dimensions are similar
    -weight is similar
-metal dash with padded top cap
-front and rear suspension is very similar, exact in some cases

Good luck and welcome to the family.

    Seth

Thanks for all the warm welcome! This Comet is low miles and in good condition body-wise. All LDO trim is beautiful, which is why I thought I'd like to keep it that way, but it sat with a window down  ... I don't get it... So the interior is rough for the low miles. Guess I'll have to get out to the junk yards for this one. :bananaman It wouldn't bother me to make a fake GT that resembles my Spoiler ( Competition Orange and black ) I even have a spare set of 5 slot rallies  I would think that the GT buckets resemble the Torino/Cyclone seats enough to use the seat covers from Dearborn Classics and Autokrafters... They come in vinyl w/ comfort weave inserts and in black, white, maroon, green, ginger, and blue FYI. We shall see. I haven't decided yet. Yawl' have some beautiful rides. Thanks for the quick replies, and I'll keep you posted. If I am not interested inthe car, will post it w/ phone number for you to see. Find it a home! I'm in Nashville TN and will finish up my profile ASAP. (y)
