Hey guys, just wanted to drop in and say hello. I am located in Pensacola FL. and have always liked the smaller body styles of the Maverick/ Comets. I have came accross one here locally, I don't know a whole lot about what a fair price is for a "project". I have had several classic broncos, and know they can empty your wallet pretty quick. Are parts for these things fairly reasonable? What are the best years to have, and what type of packages did they come with? What I have found Is what appears to be an all original 1976 Comet. Did any of these come with 302's? This one has a 302 with an automatic in the floor. Owner says it hasn't ran in a few years, and would need complete fluid change, with complete tuneup. He said the reason he parked it was the starter went out, then he lost his job and didn't have any money to get it fixed. Can't say I believe him, starters are not very much, but not sure of his situation. He wants $ 1,300 for it, and I just want to make sure I'm not paying too much. Any info would help, thanks in advance, Jason. I will include some pics of the car.
:Handshake looks like a deal for the money... check under the car and see if there are any rust issues (floor pans, rails, cowl leak) . ......
Welcome from Panama City, Florida.......wow Jason you are close! car looks good for the money as best I can see, do as Frank (71gold) suggest and check for rust issues from underneath if the floorpans along with other areas and torque boxes, if it all looks good then yes buy it, the interior looks great and with bucket seats!!
From the pictures you posted, it looks like quite a project. If you can do a majority of the work yourself, then it might be worth it. Interior looks nice.
Welcome, from GA! I'm with the others as far as rust is concerned. If you are comfortable with doing your own work, it's worth that especially with the interior. Depending on your goals, it looks like a great one to start with being it's a 302, factory AC car. I'm with you on the uncertainty of the starter issue. You might want to take a breaker bar and see if the engine will turn over, just in case. If you can build a Bronco, you can build a Comet, no problem. 4X4's are a little more of a money pit than these, in my opinion, but it really depends on what you do with it.
Thanks guys, I tried to post additional pics of the interior with no success. The interior in in pretty Damn good shape, as well as the body. The doors open, and close tight with the strikers, and posts in great shape. The Vin tag is mint, and all the paperwork is with the car. Even the vinyl top is in great shape, but if I get it that would be gone. Has a little rust on the passenger front fender by the bumper. All in all a very solid car with the floors looking great under the carpet. My plan would be first to get it road worthy, and in good running/stopping order. Then throw some slots on it wrapped in some BFG's keep the nice interior, and paint it dark green metallic with a Wimbledon white accent. Add some flowmaster exhaust, with turnouts in front of the rear tires. After that just drive the Hell out of it.
Let me know if you don't get/want it....I happen to know a buyer that's very interested And close by :16suspect
