Hey Guys, I replaced my carb this weekend and the car idles fine but when I put it in drive the oil light begins to fade in and out. I tried to adjust the screw that has a spring on it facing the passenger side of the carb and it idles higher but the light still flashes. The car does not seem like it is cutting off but when I am in drive and reverse the oil light flashes. Am I adjust the correct screw or is the screw on the throttle body side the one. I have played with them both but don't want to get too far off track. I will try to adjust once I get some more info. If not I will take it down to Fred's Auto in Dallas, Ga. Thanks for reading this. Any help is appreciated.
what type of carb is it and what type of motor is it. the idle speed screw is usually on the side the the throttle lever that the throttle cable attaches to. the screw for it is usually down near the throttle shaft. you need to hook up a tach to correctly set the idle speed.
It is a Carter carb/200 inline 6. Is there a place to start in regards to setting the screw or will I ultimately need to have a special tool or meter to tell me the RPM's? I want to do it the right way..Thanks
your just shooting in the dark with out a tach. you can get a tune up tach/dewell meter at most autoparts stores for around 30 to 40 bucks.
First - CHECK the OIL PRESSURE at an idle with a gauge - it should be about 30 psi. Then you can set the idle at 600-650 in neutral with the curb idle solenoid disconnected. The adjust the idle to 800 to 850 in neutral (600-650 in drive) with the curb idle solenoid. (connected and on) If the light still flashes then replace the oil switch. (sender)
